It should be correct. But use the performance monitor to measure the correct
usage. Take a look int the below URL:-

Pervasive SQL in same box as MSSQL 2000 ?
would there be any problems setting both up in the same box ?
It works. Still have a few of those in production environment. Hope you are
not using Pervasive for new stuff:-) Bad enough to have legacy crap depend
on it. We are phasing out all Pervasive stuff (and SQL 2000 for that matter)
hope it helps

Personal Web Developer Kit SQL Error
Hi folks,
I get this error message when I try to run my personal web page starter kit (Ctrl + F5) which has come straight out of the box:
Server Error in '/WebSite1' Application.
An error has occurred while establishing a connection to the server. When connecting to SQL Server 2005, this failure may be caused by the fact that under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote connections. (provider: SQL Network Interfaces, error: 26 - Error Locating Server/Instance Specified)
Description: An unhandled exception occurred during the execution of the current web request. Please review the stack trace for more information about the error and where it originated in the code.
SQLExpress database file auto-creation error:
The connection string specifies a local Sql Server Express instance using a database location within the applications App_Data directory. The provider attempted to automatically create the application services database because the provider determined that the database does not exist. The following configuration requirements are necessary to successfully check for existence of the application services database and automatically create the application services database:
- If the applications App_Data directory does not already exist, the web server account must have read and write access to the applications directory. This is necessary because the web server account will automatically create the App_Data directory if it does not already exist. If the applications App_Data directory already exists, the web server account only requires read and write access to the applications App_Data directory. This is necessary because the web server account will attempt to verify that the Sql Server Express database already exists within the applications App_Data directory. Revoking read access on the App_Data directory from the web server account will prevent the provider from correctly determining if the Sql Server Express database already exists. This will cause an error when the provider attempts to create a duplicate of an already existing database. Write access is required because the web server accounts credentials are used when creating the new database. Sql Server Express must be installed on the machine. The process identity for the web server account must have a local user profile. See the readme document for details on how to create a local user profile for both machine and domain accounts.

In my web administration tool, under the Security tab the following error is listed:
There is a problem with your selected data store. This can be caused by an invalid server name or credentials, or by insufficient permission. It can also be caused by the role manager feature not being enabled. Click the button below to be redirected to a page where you can choose a new data store.
The following message may help in diagnosing the problem: Unable to connect to SQL Server database.
and under the provider tab the provider is listed as: AspNetSqlProvider.
So what do I need to do?
(By the way, I wasn't exactly sure where to put this post, but if it gets moved to another forum please may you post the new link? Cheers)

That could be a problem after you install it you still need to use the surface area configuration tool to enable browser services and allow remote and local connection then enable both TCP/IP and Named Pipes. Try the link below to download SQL Server Express with Advanced features, one more thing there are many user improved version of this kit you may want to check the forum for this kit at the Asp.net forums. Hope this helps.

Permissions when linking to reports
I've adding a link from my web app to reports sitting on another box. However, that box is asking the user to login. How do I set the permissions to avoid it?Would like to help!
What OS are your "boxes" running ?
Are you using Active Directory?
Are your "boxes" on the same intranet ?
What security schema are you using with SQL connections?

Permissions to data source in Report Manager
in getting the right permissions to the data source. Instead of going
into detail about my specific problem (which I don't think I can even
give a good description of since I can't see what groups the accounts
I'm using are members of because I don't have access to their AD), can
someone give a list of the permissions required on an account in order
to access a data source? SQL permissions? Report Server permissions? If
I were to create an account purely for accessing the data source for
the reports, is there a complete checklist that I could follow to
ensure all the proper permissions?
Thanks.Oh, btw, I'm concerned about permissions to standard sql database
tables/views, and possibly OLAP cubes.
Thanks!|||Anybody?|||Bueller?

Bueller?|||All right, well I figured it out, at least for SQL Server access. I
guess all a domain account needs is public and db_datareader access to
the db you're getting data out of. Any ideas if it's pretty much the
same if trying to get data from an OLAP cube?|||What you are doing here is using the users account for accessing the
database. I think this is a mistake. First, it makes management of the users
more difficult. Now, every time there is a user that needs to run a report
you have to mess with DB access. Also, by doing this your RS will not be
able to take advantage of connection pooling (connection pooling only works
if everything is exactly the same, which includes the user). What I do is
have a special user that is used only for RS data access and is given
readonly rights to the data. I use RS roles to determine who gets to run
which reports.
The other thing I do is add domain groups and users to a local group on the
server and use that local group with RS roles.

I'm still stuck on getting access to the SQL Analysis OLAP cubes, tho.
I can easily set permissions for SQL databases in Enterprise Manager,
but there doesn't seem to be an equivalent in Analysis Manager. Ideas?

Permissions for SSAS Service Account?
Hi All,
Please help with this.
I'm running a server with Windows Server 2003 R2 Enterprise x64 Edition.
On the box I've performed one named instance installation of SSAS.
I've installed SP1 as well.
There's no firewall running on the machine.
My domain account is in the SSAS Server role.
SSAS Service is running according to SQL Configuration Manager
SQL Browser Service is running according to SQL Configuration Manager
If I run both SSAS and SQL Browser under Local System, everything works OK. But this is not the way I want it, because it's not safe and SSAS is unable to read data from the remote SQL box.
If I change the service account to a domain user account, I can't connect to SSAs anymore. The error message is:
TITLE: Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio
A connection cannot be made to redirector. Ensure that 'SQL Browser' service is running. (Microsoft.AnalysisServices.AdomdClient)
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
No connection could be made because the target machine actively refused it (System)
BUTTONS:
OK
I've both set the logon account at setup, using SQL Config Mgr and Service Manager.
Using PortQry I can see nothing's listening on port 2382.
It should work. I'm beginning to think this user account doesn't have sufficient rights.
So I've created two local accounts and used these as service accounts. Same thing, untill I added both accounts to the local administrators group, then everything worked fine again.
What am I doing wrong here? Your suggestions are much appreciated.
Thanks,
Coen
Hello. You have another configuration that you do not mention: "Surface area"
You will have to allow remote connections in this configuration tool. That is for each SQL Server 2005 service that you are using.

One. Make sure you use SQL Configuration Manager to change serivce logon account for both SQL Browser and for Analysis Server.

Everything looks like it's there but I can't find out because I can't query

I'm not a DBA (ours left) so I'm kind of clueless about where to look. Any

You might want to script out object permissions and logins from the
original server using SQL Enterprise Manager to get them in sync. The
error indicates that the user ID you are using to connect to the server
does not have rights to select from the table in question.
To get through this particular issue for this table, you can log into
the server with a user with sufficient rights and issue a grant on the
table:
grant select on table to username
But I suspect there are larger issues at work here. From SQL EM, right
click on the database - All Tasks - Generate SQL Script. Uncheck
everything on Formatting tab and check Script Database users and Role,
check Script SQL Server Logins, and check Script Object-Level
Permissions from the Options tab. Generate the script, look it over, and
then run it on the new server.

Permission to run DBCC DROPCLEANBUFFERS
Whilst the devevelopers have reasonably good access to do most things on the
Dev box, we are not granted SA rights.
For performance tuning of queries, I need to be able to run DBCC
DROPCLEANBUFFERS but apparently you need to be SA to do this.
Does anybody know how we can get around this so the DBA's can affectivly
give me these permissions without making me SA.
Any help would be great.
Thanks,
JoeI'm pretty sure that only sysadmin role members can execute DBCC
DROPCLEANBUFFERS. That's the requirement in SQL 2005 so the same probably
applies to SQL 2000.
Hope this helps.

command. There is a reason for that. You are going to purge every buffer
in the system which will force SQL Server to read everything back off disk.
Only a sysadmin should have the authority to make that decision.

You shouldn't be using DBCC DROPCLEANBUFFERS for performance tuning.
SET STATISTICS IO ON
SET STATISTICS TIME ON
Give you better information. With the large memory sizes of servers, you
never have purged buffers, and your query performance in that situration is
not meaningful. To tune queries the most important metric is amount of
logical IO. You can measure that on production systems or test systems, and
it is very, very highly correlated with elapsed time and CPU utilization.
If you minimize logical IO, you will minimize query cost.

Permission Issues On REPL folder
internal network. There is only a one way trust from internal box to
external box (external box cannot see internal). I setup DMZ database as
Publisher and Distributor. The internal box can only pull. When I initiate
a PULL I get a permission's error on REPL folder: The process could not
read file
'\\ServerName\REPLDATA\unc\ServerName_SQLDB_TRANS\ 20060117141721\SPECIAL_PRICES_1.sch' due to OS error 1326.
Any thoughts on how to resolve this permission issue.
thanks
rob
from your internal network on your subscriber can you ping ServerName your
publisher by the netbios name? If not make an entry in the hosts file.
Then using qa can you issue a xp_cmdshell 'net view \\ServerName' and how
about a 'dir \\ServerName\REPLDATA\unc\ServerName_SQLDB_TRANS\' ?

|||I can ping server with netbios name. I can access share folder using
\\servername\share\ at cmd prompt.
When I run "net view" at the xp_cmdshell I get "System error 5 has occurred"
and "Access is denied"
When I run "dir" at xp_cmdshell I get "Logon failure: unknown user name or
bad password."
Its definitely user access error. I can get the two servers to communicate
in windows, but not sure how to pass security thru to another sql server on
a separate network (DMZ).
thanks again

permission denied in accessing SQl 2000
Good day,
Is there anyone could help me, I'm moving our database from old machine to a new one and Iused DTS to move it the new box. Somehow it was moved but I'm still having probelm with my front-end application when I'm trying to open it the error is something like this.
"3704-Operation is not allowed when the object is closed.
an error occurred in Cal_General.CheckDBVSN.Global Error:
-2147217911 -SELECT permission denied on object 'Global_config', Database 'dbase1', owner "App1.
underlying Errors:
Error #-217217911
SELECT permission denied on object 'Global_config' database 'calsql1', owner "App1'.
(Source MIcrosoft OLE Provider for SQL Server)
(SQL State: 42000)
(NativeError:229)
No Help file available."
Hope someone could resolve my query.
Thanks,
The databases may have been moved but not the permissions. If you have a security script with the scripted permissions you should execute it on the new server. The error indicates that the objects exists but the connecting user has no permissions querying them.Jens K. Suessmeyer

Hi Jens,
I already checked the permission of the table and selected those admin rights to make sure that I could be able to use the tabel but still the same proble I get. It is hard for me to work with the SQL co'z my boss assigned my from Sys admin to DB admin I'm really have a hard time to solve the problem.

|||OK, having dbadmin rights should be eough in your case to administer the permissions needed. Did you make sure that the user has permissions accessing the following objects:SELECT permission denied on object 'Global_config', Database 'dbase1', owner "App1.
SELECT permission denied on object 'Global_config' database 'calsql1', owner "App1'.
if the object are views, make sure that the underlying tables are also accessible to the user (if the ownership chain is broken)

Permission Denied Error
box and have found nothing on Juniper's website that addresses the issue. I
can access the Report Manager easily and enter parameters for a report.
However when I click on the View Report button I get a permission denied
error when executing the following Miscrosoft scipt:
function LoadToolbarFrame()
{
if (frames["oTbDMRepFrame"].location.href != tbDMRepFrameUrl ||
!IsIEBrowser())
frames["oTbDMRepFrame"].location.replace(tbDMRepFrameUrl);
}
I have been working on this for quite some time and have not found a
solution. I would appreciate any ideas and solutions. What is your ReportServer URL in your config files? Is that different than
the URL you are typing in your browser? If so, you may be running into a
cross-domain scripting error.
