Perrormance Monitor
Output Queue Length under my Network Interface is showing
a very high number of 4294967291. I read somewhere that
if this is longer than 2, then delays are being
experienced and a bottle neck exists. This is a Win2K
server running MS SQL 2000. What can do to determine the
source of this bottleneck and correct it?
EmmaThat would indeed be a high number. However, PerfMon counters sometimes get
messed up and I don't believe that's really the number...
Do you have the ability to reboot the box?

How did you resolve your problem with the OUTPUT QUEUE LENGTH- as I am having the same issues on my ISA servers Rebooting the server does not seem to help as it shoots right up again. this does appear to be an ISA specific issue but it would be helpful to know why.

Permissions Problem
In general SQL Server just uses the operating system to resolve the names.
So try this, go to some folder on your machine and right-click "Sharing and Security..." and select Share this folder and Add Users... to see if you can add users to a file share. If this does not work then most likely you machine is not trusted by the domain. Try removing the computer from the domain and adding it back to regain trust.
Note if your machine is NOT part of a domain, then you can only add local NT users, you can't add users from another machine.

Permissions for network services
I have created a Linked Server to an Access DB on a Novell 6.5 server. The Windows 2003 server with SQL 2005 Server on it is logged in as a Novell user with appropriote rights to the folder where the mdb is stored. The mdb is unsecured.
EXEC sp_addlinkedserver
@.server = 'JetShowData',
@.provider = 'Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0',
@.srvproduct = 'OLE DB Provider for Jet',
@.datasrc = 'k:\groups\sales\showfiles\2007 Show.mdb'
I have successfully created the link and queried the mdb while logged into SQL as Administrator using Windows Autentication. I have set up permissions for another SQL user account (I think) to use the linked server? I have added the linked server login as folllows:
sp_addlinkedsrvlogin 'JetShowData', false, NULL, 'Admin', NULL
This should allow any user to access the linked server. I did try adding a login for a specific SQL user account (sp_addlinkedsrvlogin 'JetShowData', false, 'cbonallo', 'Admin', NULL) but that did not make any difference.
The error I am getting when I try to either test the connection or run a query is the same one I was getting when I had the MSSQLSERVER service running under a local account( I had to change is so that SQLSERVER had network access rights):
TITLE: Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio
"The test connection to the linked server failed."
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
An exception occurred while executing a Transact-SQL statement or batch. (Microsoft.SqlServer.ConnectionInfo)
The OLE DB provider "Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0" for linked server "JetShowData" reported an error. Authentication failed.
Cannot initialize the data source object of OLE DB provider "Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0" for linked server "JetShowData".
OLE DB provider "Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0" for linked server "JetShowData" returned message "Cannot start your application. The workgroup information file is missing or opened exclusively by another user.". (Microsoft SQL Server, Error: 7399)
For help, click: http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink?ProdName=Microsoft+SQL+Server&ProdVer=09.00.3027&EvtSrc=MSSQLServer&EvtID=7399&LinkId=20476
BUTTONS:

This Access db does not have a workgroup file becasue it is unsecured. This error is being reported incorrectly since it is the exact same one when SQL did not have permissions to access the network. I also tried it from another Windows Autenticated user account and got this message:
TITLE: Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio
"The test connection to the linked server failed."
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
An exception occurred while executing a Transact-SQL statement or batch. (Microsoft.SqlServer.ConnectionInfo)
Cannot initialize the data source object of OLE DB provider "Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0" for linked server "JetShowData".

I'm thinking I need to somehow I need to give the user account network access rights, too? Or some other permissions? Any help will be greatly appreciated!!

Permissions
Business Server 2k network.
The problem we have is this:
Certain parts of the ERP don't work when logged in as
Domain users, unless they have Domain Admin rights.
Here is the scenario
Pre-Requisites
Windows requires username and password
ERP system requires username and password
User A (Domain Administrator)
User B (Domain User)
1 - User A logs into PC1 (Windows2K/XP). He then then logs
into the ERP system. He can do everything he wishes as he
has full domain admin rights.
2 - After user A is finished with the ERP system he logs
out of the ERP system but leaves PC1 logged on. User B now
opens the ERP system and logs in with his username and
password. He can complete any task he attempts.
THe PC is now logged off.
3 - User B now logs into Windows2K/XP on PC1 with his
WIndows username and password and then logs into the ERP
system. He can access all parts of the ERP as before but
some screens fail to open/initilaize.
He now logs off of the ERP in order that User A can log on
but leaves Windows logged on.
User A logs onto the ERP system and attempts to complete
certain tasks. He can't seem to comlete them now either
(Same taks).
PC logged off
4 - Give User B admin rights and he can now achieve part 1
of this scenario. Obviously it isn't appropriate to give
every user on our network full Admin rights but does
anyone know what could be happening here and where best to
look for solutions? I.e Windows or SQL.
It appears that
1. The ERP may be using trusted connections. That would explain why things
can or can not be done based on who logged into the OS.
2. Also there may be some issues related to connection pooling... When User
B logs into the OS and the ERP, then logs out of the ERP, the ERP continues
to behave as if userB was logged in... Either the ERP is somehow keeping a
connection open or perhaps the connection is not being re-initilized each
time it is returned to the connection pool... Check the connection pool
settings ( as per he ERP system documentation) and see if that helps...

insufficient for performing this operation
I am getting this error when I have installed my asp.net application on the
server, it runs fine on my development box, here is the code that is running:
Dim rService As ReportingService = New ReportingService
rService.Credentials = System.Net.CredentialCache.DefaultCredentials
Dim catalogItems As CatalogItem()
catalogItems = rService.ListChildren("/", True)
And it's falling over on the last line, anyone got any ideas?

<<<Bryan Avery>>Have your asp.net application run under different credentials. You can set
these for services on the Log On tab for the services property.

I'm a little unsure what you mean by setting different credentials for the
application, where and how do you set them?

Adding the following line under
<authentication mode="Windows" />
<identity impersonate="true" />
And it all springs in to life

Permissions
Business Server 2k network.
The problem we have is this:
Certain parts of the ERP don't work when logged in as
Domain users, unless they have Domain Admin rights.
Here is the scenario
Pre-Requisites
---
Windows requires username and password
ERP system requires username and password
---
User A (Domain Administrator)
I.e Windows or SQL.It appears that
Check the connection pool
settings ( as per he ERP system documentation) and see if that helps...

change a network card and driver on the server and before
this the parts of the ERP which do not function proplery
now worked prior to the new card/driver being installed.
Any advice/assistance in this matter greatly appreciated

default BUILTIN\Administrators group has not been modified
or removed, the user will have sysadmin access through their
membership in the local administrators group on the SQL
Server - domain admins are members of the local admins group
and this group gets access to SQL Server through the
BUILTIN\Administrators group. The BUILTIN\Administrators
group are members of sysadmins.
How the security needs to be set up and how the users need
to be configured depends on the ERP system. You should
follow up with the vendor of this system to properly
configure security for the users of the system.

mean and functioning properly or expected behavior would be
defined by the vendor of the ERP.

Permission Issues On REPL folder
internal network. There is only a one way trust from internal box to
external box (external box cannot see internal). I setup DMZ database as
Publisher and Distributor. The internal box can only pull. When I initiate
a PULL I get a permission's error on REPL folder: The process could not
read file
'\\ServerName\REPLDATA\unc\ServerName_SQLDB_TRANS\ 20060117141721\SPECIAL_PRICES_1.sch' due to OS error 1326.
Any thoughts on how to resolve this permission issue.
thanks
rob
from your internal network on your subscriber can you ping ServerName your
publisher by the netbios name? If not make an entry in the hosts file.
Then using qa can you issue a xp_cmdshell 'net view \\ServerName' and how
about a 'dir \\ServerName\REPLDATA\unc\ServerName_SQLDB_TRANS\' ?

|||I can ping server with netbios name. I can access share folder using
\\servername\share\ at cmd prompt.
When I run "net view" at the xp_cmdshell I get "System error 5 has occurred"
and "Access is denied"
When I run "dir" at xp_cmdshell I get "Logon failure: unknown user name or
bad password."
Its definitely user access error. I can get the two servers to communicate
in windows, but not sure how to pass security thru to another sql server on
a separate network (DMZ).
thanks again
