Pervasive "Arithmetic overflow occurred." message

I'm encountering a problem with a SQL Server 2000 installation. The steps
to reproduce are simple: log in to the server via OSQL or "Query Analyzer".
Run "sp_help". I immediately receive several "Arithmetic overflow
occurred." messages followed by the standard results expected from
"sp_help". All other queries also report the same error message, though the
results seem to be correct. Doesn't matter what DB I'm running against.
Doesn't matter what ID I've logged in with. I've tried different client
machines. I don't see the problem when I connect to other SQL Server 2000
installations. I also tried it from the console of the SQL Server machine
itself w/"Query Analyzer". Same result.
What would cause this and how do I correct it?
Thanks,

I'd suggest applying the latest service pack

Permissions WTF

I have a intigrated log using a local group
the login does not have explicit access to any db's and no server roles
when i log on with query analyzer i can access any data (even though not a
server admin or anything else)
when i remove login...can log (as it should be)
why does this login have full access to all db's ?When i add the login and run IS_MEMBER and USER it says i am dbo of a user
database that i did not give access to what is going on ?

Since this is a text file, I'd suggest creating a share pointing to the
"LOG" folder (should be in "Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL\LOG" if
you took the default installation path). Allow the developers RX permission
to the NTFS layer of that folder.

Permissions of Logins

I made a new login for my database. In the database access
tab i only checked my database as permit and gave the login
no server roles. But when I log on to the SQL Server with
that login, I can see all Databases and their tables on the
server. Why is that?
Thanks, Rainer.

if your login only is associated to 1 database users and for only 1
database, you should get
err 916 Server user 'x' is not a valid user in database 'db_name'
raised by Enterprise Manager...
please verify the login is not member of a particular server role

|||Hi Andrea,
You aksed if the login is associated to a database user. I
don't really understand that. I thougth that the login is a
database user. I associated it with one database (the only
one where I checked the permit flag). Maybe I did something
wrong?
Thanks, rainer.

|||Rainer,
You will still be able to see all the databases on the server. You will
also still have access to anything the public role has access to on the
system databases. You won't be able to actually open up any of the stored
procedures/tables/etc on the server other databases though. I would
recommened deleting the guest account and restricting the public role
though. You can read more about SQL Server security at www.sqlsecurity.com.

|||This is also something that changes with SQL Express and with SQL Server
2005. You will no longer be able to see objects that you have no access to.

Permissions Issue Logging into Mgt Studio

I am unable to log into SSRS from Mgt Studio and receive a permissions error when I go to http://ServerName/reportserver in IE. When loging into Mgt Studio I've entered the following for the server name:

ServerName
ServerName\Insance
http://ServerName/reportserver

The first two methods return an error "server cannot be found". The third allows me to login but when I click on "Home" I receive:

TITLE: Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio

Failed to retrieve data for this request. (Microsoft.SqlServer.SmoEnum)
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

The permissions granted to user 'mydomain\myAccount' are insufficient for performing this operation. (rsAccessDenied) (Report Services SOAP Proxy Source)
The permissions granted to user 'mydomain\myAccount' are insufficient for performing this operation. (rsAccessDenied) (ReportingServicesLibrary)

******************************************
I am a member of the dcom and power users group. Does anyone know what is causing this and how to resolve?

thanks in advance,
ScottSounds like you haven't set the correct permissions ;)
Goto http://localhost/reports as a local-administrator then on root -> properties and add a new role for mydomain\myAccount..
For testing you could add "Everyone" as a content-manager and then reduce the rights until they fit for your case..

how can I give users, permission to log in to the msde
server?
Do I need a msde-manager program? Where can I find this?

as MSDE is only provided with oSql.exe, you can perform this task from this
command line utility as exposed in
http://support.microsoft.com/default...;EN-US;q325003
for your convenience, you can have a look at a free prj of mine, available
at the link following my sign., which provides a graphical user interface
similar to Enterprise Manager in order to accomplish management tasks,
including the one here discussed..
futher tools for MSDE, both commercial and free, are listed
http://www.microsoft.com/sql/msde/partners/default.asp and/or

you can not add a user as administarator... you can add a login as
sysadmin..
you can use SQL-DMO object model to perform this task like
Dim oServer As SQLDMO.SQLServer
Dim oLog As SQLDMO.Login
Set oServer = New SQLDMO.SQLServer
With oServer
.AutoReConnect = True 'enables auto-reconnect when connection is
broken
.ApplicationName = "application name"
.LoginTimeout = 30
.LoginSecure = True
.Connect "(local)"
End With
Set oLog = New SQLDMO.Login
With oLog
.Name = "Login Name"
.Type = SQLDMOLogin_Standard
.Database = "Database name"
.Language = "english"
End With
oServer.Logins.Add oLog
oServer.ServerRoles("sysadmin").AddMember oLog.Name
Set oLog = Nothing
oServer.DisConnect
Set oServer = Nothing
or using straight Transact-SQL code with help of sp_addlogin and
sp_addsrvrolemember system stored procedures like
EXEC sp_addlogin @.loginame = 'login name'
, @.passwd = 'password'
, @.defdb = 'Pubs'
, @.deflanguage = 'english'
EXEC sp_addsrvrolemember @.loginame = 'login name'
, @.rolename = 'sysadmin'
GO
please have a look at
http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/de..._adda_0q7i.asp
for sp_addlogin synopsis..
for WindowsNT users and groups you have to use sp_grantlogin instead of
sp_addlogin
